Adidas Shamrock Run Portland Has Record Number of Runners
Portland, OR - The 32nd running of the Adidas Shamrock Run Portland sold out two weeks before the event held on March 14, 2010. This event has increased participation fifty percent each year in the last three years. This year the event boasted 21,000 participants that started and finished in Portland’s downtown Waterfront Park. The event continues to grow and support all things green in the environmentally consciences city of Portland, OR. Portland continues to be a leader in environmental stewardship and is proud of its bike friendly city and premium parking spaces with recharging stations for electric cars. Following the spirit of Portland, the Adidas Shamrock Run continues to use the Winning Time chip timing system that has a reusable chip. “Many of the largest races in the USA are moving to a disposable chip, but with this system it is easy to collect the chips and more cost effective for us. Plus, the reusable chip is inline with Portland’s commitment to Reducing, Reusing and Recycling” says the events head timer Eric Larpenteur. “The participants understand how to wear the chip and chip collection is a breeze with a few volunteers directing them to remove and place the chips in bins after the finish line. After the race, we sort out the chips and get them ready for the next race. Any extra work in processing the chips is gained in the fact the chips can be reused hundreds of times without additional costs. Plus, we aren’t contributing to landfills or adding chemicals needed for recycling disposable chips” explains Larpenteur. About Winning Time Americas
